San Jose, California | Telecommunications

Infinera was founded in 2000 as Zepton Networks by Drew Perkins, Jagdeep Singh and David Welch. Infinera Corporation is a San Jose, California-based vertically integrated manufacturer of Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)-based packet optical transmission equipment and IP transport technologies for the telecommunications service provider market. It is a pioneer in the design and manufacture of large-scale photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The company sells hardware and software networking options for Tier 1 carriers, Internet content providers, cable operators, government, and enterprise networks.

The Requirements

SEDEMAC has a comprehensive facility that revolves around intensive R&D as its fulcrum with 100+ engineers but also lays equal emphasis on engineering, testing, manufacturing, supply chain organization, and quality assurance. Sedemac IT Team has already implemented Atlassian products on their production server. The products they were using are JIRA Software, Confluence, and Bitbucket and has been using it for close to two years. Sedemac had multiple requirements when they approached enreap. The requirements they had are as follows:

Configure JIRA, Confluence on, Staging & Production Environments

Setup Data Center licenses in Production Environments along with load balancers for High Availability and Disaster & Recovery

Fixed Installation and configuration of the identified Add-ons(Plugins)

Bitbucket was installed and eliminated code repository The tools being used were- 1. Confluence 2. JIRA Software 3. Bitbucket

Challenges

The existing system had problems achieving high availability because of using a single node

Scaling the existing system was complex with a large number of user bases

Since the system was using a single node, it had performance issues

The team had limited ability for disaster recovery of the system because if a disaster occurs, all users are not able to redirect to other node

The team has the ability to achieve zero -downtime upgrades

Implementation

Migrated from current Atlassian JIRA, Confluence to On Premises Data Center include the User Details, Plugin data, Dashboards, Macros, Filters along Projects & Space Content (Confluence), All Schemas, Space Mapping, Page Restrictions, Full text search catalog

Implemented user mapping with internal accounts.

Fixed Backup and Monitoring Systems

Created migration validation reports that include all the objects in the system along with the attachmentsn

Upgrade Stages

STAGE 1 : RESEARCH

STAGE 2 : READY YOUR INSTANCE

STAGE 3 : DO A TEST UPGRADE

STAGE 4 : EXECUTION

Business Impact

The enreap team achieved this complex installation & migration with zero downtime during business hours.

The move to the Atlassian Data Center gave Infinera the benefits of an automatic system upgrade. Jira Data center upgrades its system automatically, enhancing the enterprise infrastructure

By adding nodes to the cluster and sync them without service interruption, the company can scale without difficulties.

With the Jira Data Center, we get a disaster recovery site located on a separate node. If a disaster occurs, all users are redirected there without time loss, ensuring stable work.

The Data Center helps Infinera to achieve high availability through active clustering and automatic hot failover within the data center.

Each node in a Data Center cluster increases capacity for concurrent users so we can scale our Atlassian application without sacrificing performance.

Features like support for AWS or Azure, rate limiting, and zero-downtime upgrades for Jira, give enterprises the options and capabilities they need to support large teams.

With Bitbucket installation, Infinera is able to complete 3x as many code reviews, which ultimately results in fewer bugs, fewer support tickets, and better software.
